The Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Guilin Medical University (College of Stomatology) is a specialized stomatological hospital integrating teaching, medical service and scientific research.

The hospital (college) has a long history of schooling, and it originated from Ophthalmology, Stomatology and Otorhinolaryngology Department of the Affiliated Hospital of Guilin Medical College, founded in 1966. Since 1985, it had organized a training class for stomatologists of nationwide ethnic minority for 10 terms in total. It has undertaken the teaching for Oral Science of the undergraduate program since 1989, and has undertaken the teaching for the higher vocational students majoring in stomatology since 1997.In 2005, it became a department that was to be constructed to offer postgraduate program in stomatology. In 2007, it was upgraded into Faculty of Stomatology, and started to enroll undergraduates in stomatology. In 2014, it was upgraded into College of Stomatology. In 2018, it was authorized to establish an affiliated stomatology hospital by Guangxi Authorized Strength Office. In 2018, the stomatology undergraduate program was authorized to enroll students in the first batch of Guangxi’s examinees. In 2020, it was authorized to offer postgraduate program in stomatology.

As a clinical practical teaching base directly under Guilin Medical University, the hospital has three medical sites, namely, Dongcheng Outpatient Department and wards (headquarters), Lequn Outpatient Department and wards, and Lingui Outpatient Department which came into use in the first half of 2021.The buildings for medical service take up an area of about 16,000 square meters. Currently, it possesses 80 chairs for dental treatment, 2 specialized operation rooms for implantation, and Oral Radiology Department.The hospital is equipped with globally advanced devices for oral diagnosis and treatment, such as maxillofacial cone beam computed tomography scanner of Asahi, Japan, Italian dental treatment unit, panoramic x-ray equipmentof Asahi, Japan, digital oral cavity imaging system of Finland, dental implantation systems of Swiss Straumann, Swedish NOBEL, German BEGO, and South Korean DIO,EMS AIR-FLOW Master Piezon, length measurement instrument of Morita, Japan, tooth whitening kit of Beyond Polish of the USA, etc., comprehensively providing service in oral prevention of diseases, health care, diagnosis and treatment.

The hospital has a team of highly educated talents rich in clinical experience. At present, it has more than 100 faculty members, of whom 18 have senior professional titles, and 3 have finished doctoral programs.Over 80% of its doctorshave once studied postgraduateor higher-levelprograms.The solid talent basis makes up an important prerequisite for the hospital to meet people’s need for oral health.The hospital carries out the administrative philosophy of high-quality medical care service, constantly improves the quality of its medical care, optimizes its service attitudes, introduces and practices new technologies and methods, and leads in the diagnosis and treatment for various types of oral diseases in northern Guangxi.

The hospital consists of teaching and research sections of oral medicine, oral surgery, and orthodontics, as well as some teaching and research institutions, such as Oral Medicine Teaching and Experiment Center, and Oral Medicine Research Institute, etc. The teaching and experiment area in it takes up about 1,100 square meters on the ground, comprises 6 teaching labs, brings in 63 simulated head model of Category I or others per day, and is equipped with teaching microscope systems, systems of assessment of internship results, live systems and teaching demonstration systems, worth 15.50 million Yuan in total.The modernized teaching facilities and prominent teaching environment of the college (hospital) offer a firm guarantee for talent cultivation.

The college attaches great importance to its teaching quality and its students’comprehensive quality, and strives to cultivate practice-oriented stomatological talents who can meet society’s development. Currently, the college has more than 300 full-time undergraduates, and more than 400 students of 8 classes who have graduated. The total employment rate of all the graduates exceeds 91%.

The college (hospital) stresses on cooperation and exchanges.In order to further promote the construction of its disciplines and specialties, and talent cultivation, it employs Professor Tang Guoyao, a famous expert of Xinhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine as the honorary president, often invites domestic and overseasprestigiousexperts to give lectures and offer guidance in the hospital, has signed an agreement on cooperation and exchange with Dental School of Okayama University, Japan, and keeps in close touch with domestic and overseas essential medical schools and hospital as friends, such as Peking University Hospital of Stomatology, Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, West China School of Stomatology of Sichuan University, Hunan Xiangya Stomatological Hospital of Central South University,School & Hospital of Stomatology of Wenzhou Medical University, etc. Periodically, it selects and sends excellent teachers and medical staff members to pay academic visits to the USA, Japan or domestic key stomatological schools or colleges, and it has held many meetings on academic exchanges and professional skill training sessions, which continuously increase the teaching, medical care and scientific research levels of its medical and nursing staff and faculty.
